Adam visits Singapore

Adam is a friend from UConn we were actually not the closes friends but we were in the same circle of friends. He has been in Japan for almost two years and always wanted to come to Singapore. Sometime after I decided to come to Singapore we planned for him to visit. This weekend would be an adventure for the both of us because honestly I had not done half of the touristy things we did this weekend.

Since he would be landing in Singapore in the middle of the night it made sense for him to take a cab and meet me at my residence. Adam arrives ahead of scheduled time leaving him waiting at the 24 hour Starbucks at UTown, good thing there was a computer and he was able to message and let me know where he was. After welcoming him at around 6:00am we talked and caught up for about an hour. Adam had been travelling for about 24 hours so after washing up we headed for breakfast where the Singapore experience began for him. We went to Koufu for breakfast where he had Kaya Toast- something I would normally have for breakfast.

Next we went out to China Town, there we went into the Chinese Heritage Center, the Buddha Tooth Relic and Sri Mariamman Temple. Then we hopped back on the MRT and stopped at Little India for an authentic Indian lunch. Our next stop was Arab district we checked out the Kampong Glam, Sultan Mosque, Arab Street, and Haji Lane.

Next we headed to the financial district near the center of town where the Merlion park is located. This was my first time seeing the famous statue since it had been closed earlier in the semester for renovations.

After the Merlion Park we took a break at a nearby bar and stalled some time to get to the Singapore Flyer at a strategic time. Singapore has the largest observation wheel in the world and is supposed to have the nicest view around sunset, but unfortunately I am no good at measuring the time that sunsets here so we went on the Flyer while the sun was still up and shinning. We got a pretty nice view of the city from up there. After the flyer we had another first for me, Chili Crab and man it was so good it is definitely a must have meal while in Singapore. I will look for a good recipe and make it when I get back home.

After dinner we headed over to Marina Bay Sands to watch the Water and Light Show this was my second time watching it but still just as good. The night wasn’t over there next we went into the Gardens by the Bay located just across a bridge from Marina Bay Sands there is a lovely garden of all types of futuristic trees and plants. At night the place is lit giving that “out of this world” effect.

In one day I saw more of Singapore than I had ever seen before. The next morning we resumed our sight seeing, I took Adam around a bit of the NUS campus until it started raining by then it was noon so we went in for cover and lunch at the Yusof Ishak House Food Junction. After lunch we headed to Sentosa- Singapore’s own man made island.  I have been to Sentosa for a beach party before but never been to the rest of the island during the day so I was excited to see what Sentosa is all about. Sentosa is pretty cool it has something for all ages. We walked around a lot of the island and visited Palawan Beach to stand on the Southern Most Point in Continental Asia. Then we spent some time in this place in Sentosa called “Bora Bora Beach Club”. After Sentosa we visited the Singapore National Museum which had a lot of interesting things on the food, music, dance, and photography of Singapore.

This was a Saturday night and I thought it was only right that we make a presence at Clarke Quay. Saturday nights at Clarke Quay are prime time so Adam was able to make the most of this time out. I went into a few new places including this place named Cuba Libre, we spent most of the night there they had a live band and good music.

Adam’s last day came too soon, Sunday morning we went out to exercise one of Singapore’s favorite rituals, shopping. Well not exactly “shopping” he was picking up swimming trucks but of course we went to Orchard Road because that is something everyone should see and experience. (So Adam, you can say you went shopping on Orchard Road in Singapore.) After the shopping adventure we headed to the Marina Bay Sands Infinity Pool. This was also my first time there and after seeing all of my friends photos at the infinity pool I could not wait to be there. I am so glad we were able to finishtish he “Grand Singapore Tour” by getting into the infinity pool. Up there we enjoyed the amazing view, talk for a while, then made our last stop at Raffles Place Hotel for an original Singapore Sling. A Singapore Sling is the signature drink of Singapore and Raffles Hotel is where it all started. After we recapped on the awesome weekend we both had we walked around City Hall then in to the MRT and parted ways.

I really enjoyed having Adam over for the weekend it felt like having a piece of home in Singapore. I am glad he came because I was able to see so many things like the Merlion Park, Garden By the Bay, the view from the Marina Bay Sands Pool and the largest ferris wheel in the world, had an original Sling, and stood on the Southern Most Point in Continental Asia. Thank You Adam for your visit!
